STAR STRUCK

Ilove starting a new chapter. At the beginning of each year, I feel both exhausted from the holiday rush and elated about what lies ahead. And while I’d love to relax and let life take its course, I’m far too impatient to sit back and wait (side note: I’m an Aquarius, and Aquarians are known as one of the most impatient zodiac signs). The impatient part of me loves a preview of what’s to come.

I want to be able to see into the future. Which is probably why I’m so fascinated by astrology – it gives me a feeling of control. I’m very aware that in reality we have little control over how our lives unfold, but astrology is deeply comforting because it gives us hope. It also satisfies the curiosity we all have within us. It allows us to dream, to believe in something bigger.

Way back when I was single and looking for love, I’d scan the weekly horoscopes for intel on how my dating life would play out. I’d also decipher the career predictions, along with the health and wellbeing advice. I loved it all. I loved getting a peek into the future.

I know I’m not the only one who loves horoscopes, which is why we’re giving you an entire special on them. You’ll find a little cheat sheet on the different star sign personalities written by Matt Galea, author of How to Spot the (Star) Signs. Matt has pointed out that while astrology might be considered a New Age practice, it dates back to ancient times (it was used to predict seasonal shifts and interpret celestial cycles).

You’ll also find detailed horoscopes for every star sign written by The Astrology of You author Emma Vidgen. Emma grew up in a household where astrology was part of daily life. “There was always something magical about it. It made me feel like I was part of something bigger, and reassured me life was not unfolding in a completely random way,” she says. It has become a life-long love – and Emma now writes widely about astrology. “There are so many different philosophical approaches, so many different techniques, you never stop learning; it’s one of the things I love most about it. For me, it is fluid, a practice that expands and contracts depending on where you’re at in your life.”

I loved reading all about what’s in store for me next year and I hope you enjoy this guide too. Happy new year, and I trust the year ahead is a wonderful one filled with joy, love and laughter.
