SAM MCKNIGHT
Hair by Sam McKnight founder
The UK hairstylist has cut the hair of some seriously iconic women (think Princess Diana and Kate Moss), and now his brand is giving our own hair looks an edge.
W HAT HAIRSTYLES SHOULD WE CHANNEL RIGHT NOW?
For the past few seasons hair has been pared back and natural. I think we’ve come to the end of that; people are expecting to see a bit more drama. Also do something different to what you have been doing – you can’t get away with having the same haircut for years. I think changes and reinvention are great, whether it’s a fringe or a shorter style. WHAT ARE TWO HAIR TIPS THAT WILL HELP OUR DAY-TO-DAY?
If you have slightly dirty hair I wouldn’t put dry shampoo all over or pull your style apart. I would target the part line and apply just in the roots to refresh without getting a big mess. I always think hair looks better when it’s not quite so waved and [is] a bit undone. I would use Cool Girl Texture
Mist and make the sections uneven so the waves are also uneven when I use the hot tongs.
Y OU STILL TEND TO KATE MOSS’ HAIR; WHAT IS A LOOK SHE LOVES?
Undone waves, that’s what I do with Kate all the time. I leave the front bit natural because the natural wave in it kind of follows her jaw and cheekbone, and then tong it randomly. YOUR PRODUCTS ARE SO EFFECTIVE. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?
It’s all self-financed. We didn’t go to a big company and get products off the shelf. These are all absolutely from scratch: fragrance, packaging, formulations, everything is done ourselves. I wanted to create products that we use [regularly], so I launched with four products that we use backstage all the time.
