THAT’S A WRAP

Beauty director Sally Hunwick hits the medispa to trial a body wrap designed to detox both body and mind

-

While you can arguably get a decent facial in most shopping malls, a results-driven body wrap can be hard to come by (in Australia at least). So when I found the Biologique Recherche body treatment on the

Kailo Medispa menu in Brisbane (it’s the only spa to have the treatment in the country) I was all in.

Kailo is located in the very chic Calile Hotel in the heart of Brisbane’s stylish inner-city shopping district, James Street. So by the time I step foot inside the spa, I’m already feeling pretty relaxed and happy.

After being greeted with tea in the reception room of Kailo, I’m ushered inside their beautifully minimalist treatment room. Stripping down to a paper G-string, I lay down on the very comfortable treatment bed to await all things Biologique Recherche. Cult followed, this French beauty

brand was founded more than

40 years ago and is a skincare obsessive’s dream.

To start things off, I’m given a gentle stomach massage, which is meant to help get my insides working and support detoxing from within. I feel a little vulnerable at first, but I definitely notice the dissipation of tension I didn’t realise I had.

Next up, Biologique Recherche’s much-adored Lotion P50. Designed to exfoliate and tone skin while prepping it for other skincare, the boosted Corps (body) version is slathered all over my back, stomach and limbs, creating sensations of tingling and warmth.

After this, a detoxing paste of active ingredients (such as algae, camphor and peppermint) is smoothed over me, section by section, before I’m wrapped up like a layered present in plastic then a heated blanket and other coverings. The sensation is like nothing I have experienced before. I am hot. I am cold. Actually, I’m both at once. I am in my body. I am floating in space. I am desperately trying to concentrate. I’m worlds away. While wrapped up, I’m also given a very good head massage, which only adds to my “thousand miles away” state of mind.

After what seems like days (in the best possible way) I’m ushered into the shower where I wash the products from my now very smooth skin. My body still feels tingly cool, a sensation that lasts for maybe an hour or so after my treatment.

I lie back down on the bed and my therapist uses a textured mitt to work at my wobbly parts (namely my thighs) to help give my legs a renewed smoothness. The feeling is invigorating and a teeny bit satisfyingly ouchy.

Post treatment, my body feels zinging with life, less bloated, smoother, firmer and more toned. My head feels clear and relaxed. I’m told to keep drinking water to flush all the toxins away. I oblige. Anything to keep this euphoric feeling going.
