WE DECIDED TO KEEP IT a little low key, and focus more on the hardware inside the chassis as opposed to the peripherals outside. That said, we still wanted a solid pair of cans to wrap around our ears, and couldn’t think of anything better than AudioTechnica’s ATH-AG1Xs. With a closed-back design, these circumaural headphones provide crisp audio, and a tremendously wide soundscape, thanks to a phenomenal 5-35,000Hz frequency response, coupled with astonishingly low distortion.

Explosions are meaty, while higher trebles retain that signature shatter. Music is equally joyous; it’s not as well balanced as some audiophile solutions, but the extra bass doesn’t harm the mids or upper treble. If you want the best gaming headset, you’d struggle to turn the ATH-AG1Xs aside.
