It’s scary just how lit­tle you can pick one of these beasts up for nowa­days. OK, 500GB isn’t ex­actly an av­er­a­ge­sized hard drive—ideally, you want some­thing around dou­ble that size— but if you’re on a bud­get, and don’t mind be­ing a lit­tle more scrupu­lous with your games and con­tent, in this age of dig­i­tal stream­ing at least, run­ning with a 500GB HDD for your backup drive isn’t ex­actly too much of a stretch.

Western Dig­i­tal is one of the bet­ter hard drive brands out there. And al­though the AV-GP isn’t one of its main­stream drive ranges, we’ve no doubt this $19 box of joy will serve you well. There is one caveat here: It does only sup­port SATA 3.0 Gb/s, but that’s still the equiv­a­lent of se­quen­tial read and writes near­ing 375MB/s, and you won’t find any spin­ning plat­ters ca­pa­ble of driv­ing those kinda num­bers sub-$300.
