20 years of ser­vice

VOL­UN­TEERS at the Heath­cote Vis­i­tor Cen­tre were cel­e­brat­ing 20 years of op­er­a­tion on Mon­day last week.

As part of na­tional vol­un­teer week cel­e­bra­tions, the con­tri­bu­tions of 18 vol­un­teers were recog­nised.

And they’re a com­mit­ted group, con­tribut­ing more than 6000 hours of ser­vice a year.

City of Greater Bendigo tourism and ma­jor events man­ager Terry Kara­maloudis said vol­un­teers were crit­i­cal to Greater Bendigo’s high qual­ity vis­i­tor ser­vices.

“Our skilled and pas­sion­ate vol­un­teers pro­vide in­for­ma­tion to vis­i­tors and sell sou­venirs, lo­cal pro­duce and tick­ets to lo­cal theatre pro­duc­tions and events,” Mr Kara­maloudis said.

The cen­tre is also the lo­cal agent for V/Line ticket sales, pro­vid­ing a valu­able ser­vice to the lo­cal com­mu­nity and vis­i­tors.

The group of vol­un­teers wel­come 20,000 vis­i­tors through the doors an­nu­ally and keep the cen­tre open from 9am to 5pm ev­ery day ex­cept Christ­mas Day.

“Vol­un­teer sup­port is vi­tal to en­sure we of­fer the best pos­si­ble ser­vice to vis­i­tors and sup­port our tourism mem­bers and lo­cal busi­nesses,” Mr Kara­maloudis said.
