20 years of service
VOLUNTEERS at the Heathcote Visitor Centre were celebrating 20 years of operation on Monday last week.
As part of national volunteer week celebrations, the contributions of 18 volunteers were recognised.
And they’re a committed group, contributing more than 6000 hours of service a year.
City of Greater Bendigo tourism and major events manager Terry Karamaloudis said volunteers were critical to Greater Bendigo’s high quality visitor services.
“Our skilled and passionate volunteers provide information to visitors and sell souvenirs, local produce and tickets to local theatre productions and events,” Mr Karamaloudis said.
The centre is also the local agent for V/Line ticket sales, providing a valuable service to the local community and visitors.
The group of volunteers welcome 20,000 visitors through the doors annually and keep the centre open from 9am to 5pm every day except Christmas Day.
“Volunteer support is vital to ensure we offer the best possible service to visitors and support our tourism members and local businesses,” Mr Karamaloudis said.
