De­feat be­fore pen­nant

HEATH­COTE Bowl­ing Club played its an­nual prac­tice match against Kil­more at Heath­cote on Sun­day, in warm con­di­tions.

Un­for­tu­nately, Heath­cote was com­fort­ably de­feated 98 shots to 114 with Brian Tay­lor be­ing the only skip­per to taste suc­cess.

Brian Tay­lor won 23 shots to 14, while Chris Cail lost 12 shots to 20; Eileen O’Brien was de­feated 12 shots to 20; John McGil­livray lost 16 shots to 22; Bill Gar­diner was nar­rowly de­feated 21 shots to 22; while Peter Cun­ning­ham lost 14 shots to 26. So­cial Bowls On Wednes­day, in fine and warm con­di­tions, 21 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples.

Two teams won all three games and on the points sys­tem the win­ners were John McGil­livray (s) and Lor­raine Speirs (three wins, 48 points, +27 shots).

Run­ners-up were Sharon Vowles (s) and Les Mo­rante (three wins, 42 points, +8 shots) from Greg Speirs (s) and Graeme Vowles (two wins, 35 points, +23 shots). The jack­pot was not won and will be $120 to­day.

Ladies An­nual Shield

On Mon­day, the ladies trav­elled to South Bendigo to con­test the an­nual shield.

In a close con­test Heath­cote (59) lost to South Bendigo (60). Sharon Vowles (23) de­feated H. Hall (15); Denise An­der­son (11) lost to J. Warfe (16); and Eileen O’Brien (25) lost to R. Pun­ton (29).
