Defeat before pennant
HEATHCOTE Bowling Club played its annual practice match against Kilmore at Heathcote on Sunday, in warm conditions.
Unfortunately, Heathcote was comfortably defeated 98 shots to 114 with Brian Taylor being the only skipper to taste success.
Brian Taylor won 23 shots to 14, while Chris Cail lost 12 shots to 20; Eileen O’Brien was defeated 12 shots to 20; John McGillivray lost 16 shots to 22; Bill Gardiner was narrowly defeated 21 shots to 22; while Peter Cunningham lost 14 shots to 26. Social Bowls On Wednesday, in fine and warm conditions, 21 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples.
Two teams won all three games and on the points system the winners were John McGillivray (s) and Lorraine Speirs (three wins, 48 points, +27 shots).
Runners-up were Sharon Vowles (s) and Les Morante (three wins, 42 points, +8 shots) from Greg Speirs (s) and Graeme Vowles (two wins, 35 points, +23 shots). The jackpot was not won and will be $120 today.
Ladies Annual Shield
On Monday, the ladies travelled to South Bendigo to contest the annual shield.
In a close contest Heathcote (59) lost to South Bendigo (60). Sharon Vowles (23) defeated H. Hall (15); Denise Anderson (11) lost to J. Warfe (16); and Eileen O’Brien (25) lost to R. Punton (29).
Today: Mixed social bowls at 1pm. Saturday, October 6: Practice match against North Bendigo at North Bendigo.
Monday, October 15: Midweek Pennant round one.
Thursday, October 18: Practice and club barbecue.
Saturday, October 20: Weekend Pennant round one.
