Don’t forget, Remembrance Day service is on Friday

McIvor Times - - NEWS -

THIS year, Heathcote’s traditional Remembrance Day service will be conducted early, on Friday, November 9, in order to provide the best opportunity for Heathcote residents, schools and clergy to attend, and also to support other events in Bendigo on Sunday. By conducting the Remembrance Day service on Friday, it is hoped that our local primary schools will be able to attend with the maximum number of students, which the local RSL sub-branch says is important in conveying the significance of the occasion to future generations.

Services will commence in Heathcote RSL Hall at 10am, with wreath laying at the Heathcote Cenotaph from 10.45am. Community and personal wreaths are most welcome. There will be a guest speaker from the ADF, and light refreshments available afterwards.

On Sunday, November 11, Heathcote RSL will provide complimentary buses to depart from the front of the Hall at 8.45am to transport veterans and community members to Bendigo for the re-enactment of the ‘Welcome Home March’, commencing at 9.45am from the Bendigo Town Hall. Events will culminate with commemoration services at the Soldiers Memorial before moving to the Bendigo RSL and returning back to Heathcote by bus from about 2pm.

Additionally, in Heathcote and Bendigo, churches, other community organisations and the public are encouraged to ‘Ring a Bell to Remember’. At 11.10am, bells across the district will ring out to commemorate the signing of the Armistice.
