Vanessa joins McIvor Times

McIvor Times - - NEWS -

VANESSA Wiltshire is the new journalist at your McIvor Times.

She and her husband Trev “tree changed” from Melbourne to Heathcote two-anda-half years ago after their once quiet town of Pakenham became an outer suburb of Melbourne.

With Trev being a ‘country boy’, and Vanessa commuting up to five hours a day for work, both knew it was time to get out.

“I always had a yearning to live in the country, ever since I was small,” Vanessa said.

“Now here I am, finally doing what I love. Trev and I have bought a house in Heathcote, we are very happy.”

Vanessa, who dreamt of becoming a journalist at age eight, graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business in 2004. For many years she worked in HR, which took her to Canada, France and around Australia, but Vanessa never felt as if it was her ‘thing’.

“I just wasn't happy,” she said.

When Vanessa moved to central Victoria, she finally found a career that she loved; community and economic development. Working for Mitchell Shire Council and more recently the Member for Euroa, Steph Ryan, she developed a strong knowledge of, and love for, the region.

Vanessa said she was looking forward to combining her love of writing, together with getting to know the people and telling their stories.

“I love listening to people and finding out why things are the way they are,” she said. “I’m aware this is a community full of history and tradition. Many people have worked very hard – over multiple generations – to make Heathcote what it is. I recognise this, and I am proud to join the community.”
