See & Do

Melbourne Official Visitor Guide - - Inside -

Be inspired by the huge array of attractions

you can find every day in Melbourne. There’s something for visitors of all ages

and with any interest.

Take in the View

See Melbourne from a higher plain at Eureka Skydeck — from the 88th floor you’ll spy the city, Port Phillip

Bay and the Dandenong Ranges. If you’re not afraid of heights, add a ticket for The Edge, a glass box suspended 300 metres above the ground. It’s like a giant ferris wheel, but there’s a lot more scenery to view when you take a spin on Melbourne Star. eurekaskydeck.com.au melbournestar.com

Fun for the Family

At Melbourne Museum, there’s something for everyone in your posse. Older kids will love the

Bugs Alive! exhibition, tiny tots can dance up a storm or dig for fossils at the Pauline Gandel Children’s Gallery, and you can all wonder about times past on the Dinosaur Walk. At the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, hit the rides, watch movies in the 4D cinema and get creative in the build and play zones. museumsvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum melbourne.legolanddiscoverycentre.com.au

Find Your Thrill

Take on the side of a building with just some ropes at Rap Jumping. Of course, whether you decide to run down the seven storeys or abseil over the edge, it’s all safe and fully supervised. You’ll need to take an even bigger leap of faith when you team up with an instructor at Skydive Melbourne. Freefall from 14,000 feet before the parachute engages and you float down to the landing zone near St Kilda Beach. rapjumping.com skydiving.com.au

Take a Tour

Get to know the city better on a Hidden Secrets Tours Lanes and Arcades Tour. You’ll stroll through Melbourne’s tiniest thoroughfares, with your guide pointing out secret shopping venues and hidden cafes and bars. If food is high on your agenda, join Walk Melbourne’s Dumpling Discovery Walk.

On it, you’ll taste treats from four different venues. If you want more thrills, check out the offerings from Melbourne Adventure Hub. Choose from rock climbing, white-water rafting, abseiling, caving and kayaking on day trips out of the city. hiddensecretstours.com walkmelbourne.com.au melbourneadventurehub.com.au

Back to Nature

In the middle of the Yarra River is Herring Island

(until 15 April), a haven for nature but also home to an environmental sculpture walk. It’s accessible only by punt on weekends from the Como Landing in South Yarra. You’d think you were a million miles from the city as you stroll along the Merri Creek Trail. It’s 21 kilometres long, but many people join it where it crosses Queens Parade in Clifton Hill and wander to CERES Community Environment Park, where you can stop for juice, coffee and a snack at the cafe. parkweb.vic.gov.au ceres.org.au
