Where can I rent a car in Mel­bourne?

En­ter­prise Rent-A-Car will have you sorted with a com­fort­able and safe car that’s the right size for your travel party and suit­able for the ter­rain you’ll be driv­ing through while sight-see­ing. Ve­hi­cle pick-up and drop-off is avail­able at Mel­bourne Air­port, in the city on Lit­tle Collins Street and in South Mel­bourne on Thistle­waite Street.

What’s the best way to get around the city? What are the pub­lic trans­port op­tions in Mel­bourne?

Mel­bourne’s pub­lic trans­port sys­tem is an ideal (and cost-ef­fec­tive) way to ex­plore ev­ery pocket of the city and fur­ther afield. The ex­ten­sive train, tram and bus network stretches from the city into sur­round­ing sub­urbs and re­gional ar­eas.

What type of ticket do I need to use pub­lic trans­port in Mel­bourne?

myki is the name of Mel­bourne’s pub­lic trans­port tick­et­ing sys­tem and cov­ers travel on trains, trams and buses. In­ter­na­tional and in­ter­state vis­i­tors can pur­chase a myki Ex­plorer Pack that in­cludes: a myki smart­card (a credit card-sized plas­tic card that is ef­fec­tively your ticket) pre-loaded with enough credit for one day’s un­lim­ited travel in met­ro­pol­i­tan Mel­bourne; in­struc­tions on how to use myki; handy maps; dis­count of­fers at many tourist at­trac­tions (over $200 value); and sou­venir wal­let. A full fare pack for an adult is $15; child and con­ces­sion packs are $7.50.

The myki Ex­plorer Pack is avail­able from the PTV Hub at South­ern Cross Sta­tion, Mel­bourne Vis­i­tor Cen­tre at Fed­er­a­tion Square and SkyBus ter­mi­nals at Mel­bourne Air­port and South­ern Cross Sta­tion.

Are there any free ways to travel around the city?

Mel­bourne has a Free Tram Zone in the CBD and Dock­lands. You don’t need a myki to ride any tram in this zone. How­ever, if you travel any­where out­side this zone, you will need to touch on with a valid myki card. See the map on the inside back cover for zone bound­aries.

You can also see Mel­bourne on the free City Cir­cle Tram, an iconic W-Class tram that trav­els past ma­jor at­trac­tions and shops. If you’re only trav­el­ling on the City Cir­cle Tram, you don't need a myki.

Where can I find pub­lic bath­rooms or ac­ces­si­ble pub­lic bath­rooms around Mel­bourne?

Where can I find travel-re­lated as­sis­tance and help?

The Trav­ellers Aid Ac­cess Ser­vices op­er­ates from both South­ern Cross and Flin­ders Street train sta­tions, of­fer­ing per­sonal care and as­sis­tance for se­nior, disabled or dis­ad­van­taged trav­ellers, as well as in­for­ma­tion, re­fer­rals for ac­com­mo­da­tion, show­ers, rest fa­cil­i­ties, in­ter­net ac­cess, and trans­port and travel in­for­ma­tion. The Trav­ellers Aid Ac­cess Ser­vices at South­ern Cross are avail­able week­days from 10am to 5pm and week­ends from 11am to 4pm. The Flin­ders Street ser­vice is open seven days from 8am to 8pm.


Where can I buy dis­counted tick­ets to shows and events?

Halftix is a great way to save money on last-minute book­ings. Lo­cated in the Mel­bourne Town Hall Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing on Swanston Street, Halftix sells tick­ets to events on the day at a dis­count.

Arts Cen­tre Mel­bourne also has a Tix­at­six of­fer. At 6pm each night, at least 20 tick­ets be­come avail­able for se­lected evening per­for­mances for just $30. Tick­ets must be booked in per­son from the Box Of­fice on level five of the The­atres Build­ing. halftixmel­ arts­cen­tremel­­at­six
