CITY of Melville councillors will consider improving facilities at Morris Buzacott Reserve at an upcoming meeting.

Windelya Sports Association (WSA), which is made up of Melville City Hockey Club, Kardinya Lakes Cricket Club, Kardinya Junior Cricket Club and Melville Turf, is seeking support for the project.

Existing clubrooms would be repurposed into four changing rooms, as well as community meeting and storage space, plus a new clubroom with kitchen facilities would be built along with a patio to support the cricket clubs.

The City would put $930,000 towards the project with community sport and recreation facility funding providing $630,000, and WSA putting in $380,000.

The WSA is also seeking in principle support from the City for a self-supporting loan, if there is any shortfall in funding from the community sporting recreation facilities fund.

At the October 16 council meeting, the council was advised to support the WSA project.

At Tuesday’s council briefing session, WSA representatives talked about the need for improved facilities at the reserve.
