Council names its deputy
THE City of Melville has elected a new Deputy Mayor, with Councillor Tim Barling stepping into to the role for the next year.
Cr Barling and Cr Guy Wieland put themselves forward for the position, with the former elected after a secret ballot.
Cr Barling was elected as a councillor for the Bateman, Kardinya and Murdoch ward in 2015 and has been a Kardinya resident for nearly 20 years.
This will be his first time serving as Deputy Mayor.
Former deputy mayor Matthew Woodall stepped down as protocol said there should be a new person in the role each October.
Cr Barling said that in his role over the coming year he hoped to play an important role for the council that would be unifying, understanding and constructive.
“Addressing the substance of items that come before council is especially important with all of the exciting and amazing projects the council is currently working towards and what I care about the most is being a champion for the cause of the council, the City and our residents and ratepayers as a whole,” he said.
