A POPULAR fishing clinic has notched 20 years in WA.

The SunSmart partnership between Recfishwest and Healthway promotes the health benefits of fishing and sun safety through community fishing clinics.

About 60 schoolchildren joined Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly to celebrate by wetting a line from the banks of Hinds Reserve, Bayswater, just a good cast across the river from the shores of Ascot.

“These clinics are an affordable way to teach kids about safe fishing practices, with rods, reels and bait provided to participants,” Mr Kelly said.

“We have some of the most pristine coastal and river environments in Australia, and it’s great to see so many West Australian families learning how to fish in them safely and sustainably.”

Children’s fishing clinics will be held on various days through January at Point Walter and the Mt Henry Bridge.
