Fatherhood makes you fat. And it’s not just be­cause you’re al­ways pol­ish­ing off the re­mains of your four-year-old’s fish fin­gers. A study in the Amer­i­can Jour­nal of Men’s Health an­a­lysed the BMI of more than 10,000 men from ado­les­cence into their mid-30s. While the non-fa­thers ac­tu­ally lost weight dur­ing this pe­riod, men who were liv­ing with their kids gained an av­er­age of 2kg af­ter be­com­ing a dad. Throw in the fact that sleep de­pri­va­tion re­duces your lev­els of lep­tin, the hor­mone that sup­presses ap­petite and boosts en­ergy, and it’s no sur­prise that dad bod is a real thing. But the fight­back starts here. We got three fraz­zled dads to take on MH Fit­ness Direc­tor Chief Brabon’s 10-week chal­lenge to see if they could get back in shape with fam­ily life in full swing.
