Codpiece As it turns out, this fashion monument to male ego has nothing to do with fish. The “piece” was something worn on the front of the trouser department. It was designed to enhance the natural assets of the wearer. Kind of like a Wonderbra, but for blokes, about 500 years ago. The cod in codpiece is a word from Middle English, meaning scrotum.
