FIRST PERSON

- COLIN LANE

I was happiest when … Frank [Woodley, one half of comedy duo Lano and Woodley] begged me to get the band back together. You wouldn’t know it but … I actually begged Frank’s wife to get him to beg me. My

most embarrassing moment … I was performing in Sydney and someone came up and asked me if I would take a photo, and I assumed they were a fan, but as I leant in for the group selfie it became apparent they just wanted me to take a photo of their family in front of the Opera House. The last time I

cried was … watching the film the Imitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch. He’s very good. The last

book I read was … Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan. I know! I’m so “on trend”! My favourite films are …

Midnight Run (Hilarious road film starring Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin) and Lost in America with Albert Brooks. My guilty pleasure is … collecting sea shells, taking them home and never looking at them again. Life has taught me … that life is short and after 40 years of trying, olives are just not my thing so I’ve stopped eating them. I’m about to … do some Lano and Woodley shows at one of our all-time favourite theatres in the world, The Theatre Royal. My first job

was … painting Christmas windows on shops and businesses but I realised it was seasonal so didn’t offer much security. What I enjoy most about my

work is … running around on stage with Frank, hitting him with blunt instruments – while explaining to my children they should study hard because you don’t want people laughing at you.

See comedy duo Lano (Colin Lane) and Woodley (Frank Woodley) perform their new show Fly at Hobart’s Theatre Royal tonight and tomorrow night at 5pm and 7.30pm and Monday at 7.30pm.
