Sophie Carnell, Janine Combes, Alex Parish, Sarah Stubbs Curator: Dr Amy Jackett Hadley’s Orient Hotel, 34 Murray St Hobart — Until February 28 Price range: $195-$1800

This is an engaging show by four excellent makers whose ability to create narratives in the form of beautiful wearable art is well established. The artists have created new works that respond to the history of one of Hobart’s oldest hotels. The varied items are rich and their stories engrossing, and the manner of their display across the hotel makes for a viewing session that’s genuinely fun. Pieces are cleverly integrated into the decor in different rooms, and there’s a map to follow, so it’s a bit like a treasure hunt with historical trappings. All artists have very strong work here, with a standout being Sophie Carnell’s Tea in the Atrium.

The catalogue launch is today at Hadley’s with artist talks by Sophie Carnell, Sarah Stubbs and Janine Combes.
