LIGHT

-

Nanna Bayer

Project Space, Contemporary Art Tasmania, 27 Tasma St, North Hobart

Until April 8

Light is the result of an established artist experimenting with their own practice, and it’s a very successful and engaging work that reveals multiple subtleties on close inspection. The artist, Nanna Bayer is a ceramicist who is already noted for her work — she’s been featured in many shows across the globe. Light is quite the departure from anything Bayer has produced before, although it does retain the delicacy found in her other creations. Bayer has created what feels like a quite other-worldly life-form, reminiscent of something from the deepest oceans, or some kind of glowing plant from a subterranean world. Close inspection reveals some very exquisite work that is hidden in the soft darkness this object is displayed in. If this is a new direction for Bayer, the next move will be astonishing, as this simple but very well realised work is a little marvel.
