NOT SO GRAND

So the new Jeep Grand Cherokee will have no diesel motor and a reduced towing capacity. There goes all the caravan towing market.

Towers do like their diesels. The new seven-seat Grand Cherokee L arrives soon (priced from $82,250), initially with just a 210kW/344Nm V6 petrol. Combined economy is 10.6L/100km and tow rating 2818kg, down from 3500kg in the current diesel. A Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid with 280kW/637Nm will follow with about 40km pure electric driving range, but tow rating will be 2722kg. Caravanners may not warm to the new line-up, but urbanites may well do.
