NO SPARE, NO THANKS

-

Re Richard Blackburn’s Haval H6 Hybrid story, how ridiculous the car not only has no spare but no space saver either. Just a repair kit. What’s next? Glad Wrap for windscreens? It’s an absolute joke. Malcolm Irving, email

The no full-size spare wheel debate is one of my favourites – it gets people fired up like nothing else. If I’m playing Devil’s advocate, roadside assist providers (motoring clubs or manufacturer roadside cover) include sorting a flat tyre. If you don’t have a roadworthy spare they’ll use a repair kit or tow you up to a certain distance for free, depending on your subscription. Most owners (well, urbanites who buy Havals) would do that rather than getting their hands dirty with a spare wheel. These days, flat tyres are very uncommon for those only using sealed roads, making tyre repair kits slightly more palatable.
