LAPS OF LUXURY

Like the 1950s smash hit to the top of the charts this spectacular residence has shot

- JARRAD BEVAN

VOLARE is a magical waterside property that is impossible to forget.

One visit to this expansive, luxurious property in Hobart’s northern suburbs and guests tend to walk away smitten.

Is it the lifestyle features like the indoor pool or billiards table that captures the imagination? Is it the lavish floorplan — ideal for entertainers — that stretches across the size of a typical 600 sqm block? Maybe it is the grand glass chandelier that makes a bold statement on entry.

Or could it be all of the above.

EIS Property senior consultant Adrian Gray said the home would be a paradise for entertainers as it offers “everything an entertainer could ask for”.

“It was originally built for Steeline Industries owner John Erends, who tells me he had countless parties and functions in the home,” Adrian said.

“The pool has been used for swimming lessons as it is heated and can be used all year round.

“The three-quarter-size billiard table and all of the gym equipment will be included in the sale and the four-person jacuzzi is quite new.”

Adrian said John had named the house after the 1950s song

“John told me volare in Italian means ‘to fly’ or ‘to blow away’,” he said.

“He felt like he might have been flying too high at the time he built it with its extravagant size and construction but he was blown away with the end result.”

Entry into Volare is via a covered patio into a tiled atrium highlighted by a water feature.

Multiple bedrooms, a spa bathroom and a home office are to the left, stairs are to the right and the expansive pool and games room is directly ahead. The 15m pool is heated by solar panels and heat pumps.

The spacious office has a full-length desk and an oval domed timber ceiling.

The laundry, toilets, a porch and hot tub are on this level, plus a large garage.

Head upward to discover the private master bedroom suite, exquisite in its level of luxury and well equipped with a walkthrough wardrobe and an ensuite with his and hers sinks.

The upper level has a vast family area including a huge kitchen with granite benchtops, a walk-in pantry and top quality appliances.

A 63 sqm tiled balcony can be accessed from this area and will be perfect for alfresco dining.

The family area and the balcony take in panoramic views of the River Derwent. Interconnecting with the family area is a massive lounge/dining room with soaring ceilings.

Attempting to trim down a lengthy list of “best features” was no easy task for Adrian. There is simply so much to enjoy, he said. “The home really looks more like a private hotel. And it is just minutes along the foreshore to Mona Museum,” he said.

“It was extremely well built of rendered concrete block with concrete floors and columns throughout. And it has fantastic street appeal.

“The living areas are as enormous as the wide views of the river.

“You can’t forget to mention the heated pool, billiard table, gym and four-person jacuzzi — fantastic when entertaining guests.

“The garage has room for four vehicles and has double-ended access allowing additional vehicles or a boat to be parked at the rear of the property.

“The block is over 1000 sqm and has only a narrow reserve between it and the foreshore.

“Everything about the house is big. The bedrooms, the living area, the games area, the balcony and even the garage are extravagant in size.”

When asked who might be the perfect buyer for this impressive property, one high profile Tasmanian sprang to mind.

“Given he is a neighbour, maybe David

Walsh would be an ideal buyer,” Adrian said in jest.

“I reckon it will actually be someone who loves the property’s uniqueness.

“I have sold the property both times that it has been on the market in the past and all of the interest was from buyers in the northern suburbs.

“If Tasmania’s borders were open, it could also attract interstate interest.”

The home is heating by a combination of gas and electricity.

To complete this property, there is an intercom, ducted floor heating and vacuum cleaning systems.
