Mercury (Hobart) - Property

SHE’S ONE OF A KIND

Never seen anything quite like this sea and tree change property at Nubeena? You are not alone, writes Jarrad Bevan.

AN internationally renowned Nubeenabased artist has put his remarkable property on the market.

Windgrove is set along the coastal headland of Roaring Beach on a superb 24.8ha of tranquil land. Nestled among she-oaks on rugged cliffs, the property overlooks the wild seas of southeast Tasmania.

Since the early ‘90s it has been the home of Peter Adams whose work can be found in eight art museums in Australia, America and Belgium. The Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery in Hobart has his work on permanent display.

Naturally, his property is a work of art, too.

Agent Kate Storey said there are many pieces of art on the property and within the home that Adams would prefer to sell with the property.

Mrs Storey said she had never seen anything like Windgrove and for that reason it was difficult to price.

“It has the feel of a priceless property. And although the owner would like to sell it as one, there are options.

“We have a 2.5ha listing with the house title and adjoining the waterfront overlooking the beach.

“The second larger title is well over 50 acres, it wraps around the first title like a horseshoe.”

Mrs Storey described the sculptures scattered throughout the landscape as extraordinary.

She said when Adams bought it, it was barren. Now? The property is an oasis.

“He has planted thousands of native species and created a haven for wildlife — it is an amazing pleasure to the senses,” she said.

Of the many property features that grab attention, the huge open circles surrounded by trees might rank at No.1. That and the sliced in half boulders in the Peace Garden.

Mrs Storey said every element on the property has meaning and is symbolic to the owner.

“It certainly has been a labour of love for him,” she said.

“While it is an escape from the world, Nubeena’s facilities are just five minutes away, Sorell is about one hour’s drive from here or it’s an hour-15 to the airport.”

With lockdowns and border restrictions, potential buyers from interstate have been unable to see the property first hand.

However, should the restrictions ease, Mrs Storey believes it would be a gamechanger for a unique property like this one.

“Where else in the world can you find something like this? It is a super duper unique property,” she said.

“If someone wanted to run a yoga or health retreat, I can’t think of anywhere that would be better.

“It’s not too remote, and yet when visiting you feel like you could be the only person in the world.”

The off-grid timber and stone house is a two-bedroom, single-bathroom architect designed home with a 249sq m floor plan.

Living space is in abundance including an open kitchen and dining area, a sunroom, deck, living room, a small library, sauna, an outdoor bath and a tennis court.

It uses solar power and has double glazed windows, full insulation and gas cooking in the kitchen.

The properties are listed with Kate Storey Realty and priced at $2.998 million- plus for the title with the house or $3.998 million- plus for both titles.
