Big firms thrive but pensioners ripped off

-

TASMANIAN Council of Social Service chief executive Tony Reidy believes that because I have installed solar panels I am causing financial grief to people in the welfare sector.

For economic and green reasons I believe what I have done is a benefit to all other Aurora users. Based on last year’s accounts, I did not get the $1000 relief he quoted ( Mercury, May 8) but less than half that amount.

If the subsidy I currently receive is reduced to 8c/kW and not the 27c/kW I now receive, Tony must be incredibly naive to think that the new electricity supply companies will pass on the 19c savings to the consumer.

The 19c gap will without question go straight into the companies’ income statements and your welfare recipients will receive nothing.

I am a pensioner with a bank overdraft (hardly wealthy) and I have no wish to subsidise electricity retailers by 19c/kW.

Has the $200 million the Tasmanian Government received for producing clean and green energy as a result of little or no carbon emissions been passed on to us consumers? reduction.

Finally, can I assume that the new wind farm energy producers will accept a measly 8c/kW for their electricity. I think not.

This is to penalise and rip off the pensioner while nothing is said about the Government selling cheap power to big business and new electricity companies eventually pocketing most of the current subsidy.
