Derwent has to lift for OHA revenge

- ADAM CLIFFORD

THEY both went into their last clash as two unbeaten sides fighting for top position, but OHA smashed Derwent 8-0 to assert its dominance.

The pair return to face each other at 1pm, with Derwent coach Alistair Addison conceding his side should have lost by more last time round.

“They came out to play and we clearly didn’t because defensively we were poor and you can’t go out against a quality team like OHA without defensive accountability and expect to be in the game,” Addison said.

“I don’t think too many guys could put their hand up and say they were better than their direct opponent.”

Addison has welcomed the return of Australian under-17 vice-captain Linden McCarthy, while out goes Andy Isles and Henry Curtis for what he believes is another huge test.

“OHA are a quality team with strength in every line and I think it’s pretty obvious that these guys are the benchmark of the competition.”

OHA’s Sam McCambridge, who haunted the Strikers last time with a four-goal haul, returns to the Ships along with Toby West, while Jake Morton will miss due to injury.

Ships coach Daniel Sproule was pleased his side took their opportunities last time and says his penalty corner battery has been functioning well in West’s absence.

“Dylan (Sault) has done a good job and gives us another flicking option when West does return,” Sproule said.

The Diamondbacks will unveil two England under-18 players when they face an inform University, which will be missing Cam Topfer and Ed Pascoe due to exams.

Charlie Stubbings hails from Durham Hockey Club and is a striker/midfielder, while Elliot Smith, from Loughborough University, will strengthen the back line.

North-West Graduates play Canterbury at 4pm.
