PRESSURE ON BOMBERS

- ALEX LUTTRELL

THE longer it takes the harder it gets – it’s a mantra Lauderdale coach Darren Winter is hopeful his winless Bombers side don’t follow against the Hobart City Demons today.

Winless after three games, the Bombers welcome Hobart City to Lauderdale Oval this afternoon and Winter is well aware of the stakes.

“The longer it takes the harder it gets to have a win,” he said.

But while Winter knows the Demons will be up and about after their first win of the year against Burnie last week, he remains confident

“We never go into a game thinking we’re not going to win,” he said.

Winter said the past week had been focused on his Bombers’ shortcomings after an 11point loss to Launceston last Saturday.

“We have just been working on not giving the opposition easy goals like the past few weeks by kicking to contests,” he said.

“Our decision making on slower plays has often opened us up too.”

Hobart City is now 1-3, but coach Kane Richter would not be drawn into Lauderdale’s winless start.

“We were winless up until last week so we go in with confidence knowing we have a win under our belt, but Lauderdale down there is a tough challenge for any side,” he said.

“They have played some pretty good sides, but a win for us away is pretty important. We’re definitely going down there to create havoc ... against Lauderdale who will no doubt come out firing.”

Richter said there was still lots to work on after a “relieving” win over the Dockers, including ball movement.

Hobart City captain Hugh Williams will play his first game of the year this week after missing the first four games of the season with a hamstring tear.
