HOBART CITY MIDFIELDER RUBBED OUT BY TSL TRIBUNAL

- ADAM SMITH

HOBART City was handed mixed news at the TSL tribunal last night, with key forward Callan Dell cleared but emerging midfielder Will Campbell rubbed out for a fortnight.

Dell and Campbell were referred directly to the tribunal after the Demons’ victory against the Tigers on Saturday.

Dell was found not guilty of headbutting Marcus Gardner, with his case heard because of a lack of evidence and absence of visual recording.

However, the tribunal found the evidence provided to them did not substantiate the charge and his case was thrown out.

Campbell was referred for rough conduct against Sam Rice, with the match review panel initially unable to assess the incident following the need for additional information.

The tribunal concluded that he had made high contact to Rice as a result of a bump, and once he made that decision and high contact was made, it had no option other than to find him guilty of the charge and slapped him with a twomatch penalty.

Both clubs were also fined after several players engaged in a melee after the halftime siren.

Campbell, who has become a vital cog in Hobart City’s midfield, will miss the trip to West Park this weekend and the Round 14 clash against Lauderdale.

The Demons are only one game outside the top five, but have a far inferior percentage to the two sides that sit directly above them — Glenorchy and Lauderdale.

Star Clarence defender Jason Bailey had already accepted his one-match sanction for striking Lauderdale’s Ryan Wiggins, which ruled him out of this weekend’s clash against Devonport at Blundstone Arena.

Zach Burt (North Launceston) did not have a case to answer for kicking Hamish Leedham in the Launceston derby on Friday night.
