Plenty at stake in final round

- RENEE GODFREY

THIS weekend marks the final round of the regular Tasmanian Netball League season before the finals start next week.

With the final four already confirmed, the only thing left is to determine the order.

AYC-Friends Arrows sit comfortably on top and are undefeated since 2015, an undeniably impressive feat under coach Andrew Jackson.

Northern Hawks are second, a game clear of Karana Flames in third and Kingston Blues fourth.

Hawks will have to work hard to secure a win and second spot when they face fifthplaced Cripps Waratah in what should be a good contest.

Karana will have to be at its best against sixth-placed Cavaliers, who are finishing the season strongly.

Kingston has the tough task of playing Arrows.

The other match of the final round should be an absolute cracker when OHA search for atonement and its second win of the season when it takes on Devon. OHA has done it tough in its return to the league this year, only having won one match against Burnie in Round 15, and will be looking to emulate that in the last round.

“It was really good, fantastic,” co-coach Matt Charlesworth said of the sole win, adding “it was vindication for them . . . a just reward for the hard work they’ve put in”.

Charlesworth and Steven Godfrey have worked hard with the team, with their 24goal loss to Hawks in Round 16 a huge indicator of its improvement, given its 79-goal loss to the same team earlier in the year.

“This week will be another opportunity for us to hopefully get a win on the board against Devon,” Charlesworth said.

“It’s going to be a competitive outing for both teams.”
