Large serving of Frenchy fries

FILTHY, funny Frenchy — the social media sensation turned stand-up star — is ready to unleash his freshest material upon Hobart audiences next weekend.

Drawing comparisons to “a praying mantis”, “a goldfish on meth” and “Big Bird with a fresh buzzcut”, Frenchy has been doing his selfdeprecating stand-up comedy for the past nine years.

But his popularity went to a whole new level in 2013 when he launched his “SungaAttack” YouTube channel, which now has nearly 300,000 subscribers and has clocked up more than 61 million views.

And it’s just part of his social media empire — he also has more than 202,000 Instagram followers, and more than 1.4 million people “like” his Facebook page.

In 2015, Frenchy and his musical collaborator Zach Gervais released their debut single, Friendzone, which overtook songs by the likes of Sia and Drake to reach No.26 on the iTunes Top 50.

Last year, Frenchy’s darkly funny comedy web-series The Australiana Hostel was one of five recipients of Google and Screen Australia’s Skip Ahead initiative, a program that awards winners up to $250,000 to help produce original content for global audiences.

He spent the first half of this year performing his latest stand-up show, Frenchy Unleashed, to sold-out crowds at comedy and fringe festivals in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand.

Now he has set off on a 17date regional tour of Australia, which includes one show in Hobart next weekend.

Frenchy will be Unleashed at the Theatre Royal from 8pm next Saturday (September 30). Tickets are $35, $29 concession, go to www.theatreroyal.com.au or phone 6233 2299 for bookings. The show is recommended for patrons aged 15 and over
