Plenty of home-groan talent

-

THEY’RE creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and, apparently, ooky. They’re The Addams Family, and they’re the stars of a musical comedy being staged in Hobart this week.

In this spin-off musical version of the 1960s TV classic, the ultimate princess of darkness, Wednesday Addams, has grown up and fallen in love with Lucas Beineke, a sweet young man from a respectable family.

Wednesday confides in her father, Gomez, begging him not to tell her mother, Morticia. But Gomez has never kept a secret from Morticia, and the cat is bound to come out of the bag when Lucas and his parents arrive at the Addams residence for a dinner that is anything but “normal”.

The Addams Family is the latest production by local production company and training school the Musical Theatre Crew, showcasing the talents of the company’s intermediate ensemble of 13- to 16-year-olds.

“The Addams Family has just the right amount of humour and quirky spookiness for it to be a brilliant musical, with wacky characters people fall in love with,’’ director Leiz Moore says. “It’s a terrific musical for teens to act in and to be entertained by.” The Musical Theatre Crew presents The

Addams Family at the Peacock Theatre (Salamanca Arts Centre) from 7.30pm tonight, tomorrow and Saturday, and 3pm on Sunday. Tickets are $32, $25 concession, go to www.trybooking.com for bookings.
