Apology for trio’s shameful Cup exit
BANISHED Scotland forward Sam Brooks has apologised for his embarrassing Rugby League World Cup departure.
The Bravehearts are preparing for today’s must-win clash with Samoa in Cairns without Brooks, captain Danny Brough and prop Johnny Walker after the trio were sent home for misconduct.
Reports claimed they were deemed too drunk to board a plane after their 74-6 loss to New Zealand in Christchurch and were thrown out of the Cup squad last weekend.
Brooks cut an apologetic figure when he returned to pre-season training for UK Championship club Featherstone.
“My actions on Sunday were nothing short of unacceptable,” he said. “I would like to apologise to everyone involved with Scotland Rugby League, the players, the staff and the fans who travelled a long way to support us. I would also like to apologise to everyone involved with Featherstone Rovers. Most importantly, I would like to apologise to my family who give me the right to represent Scotland in terms of eligibility.
“I am gutted to have embarrassed my family and friends by being forced to leave the tournament.”
The trio’s sacking was another blow to Scotland, which has conceded 124 points in two heavy losses. Yet it can still make the quarter-finals if it beats fellow winless outfit Samoa at Barlow Park.
“I will be working as hard as possible to redeem myself and put this behind me,” Brooks said.
