BRISBANE-

BASED independent record label Bedroom Suck is turning eight — and Hobart music lovers are getting a present, in the form of tomorrow night’s Bedroom Suck 8th Birthday Party at the Brisbane Hotel.

Joe Alexander and Sam McCabe started what would eventually become Bedroom Suck Records in Brisbane in 2009, in order to release some of the best tunes coming up from the city’s musical underground.

Since then, Bedroom Suck Records has released records for the likes of Totally Mild, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, Boomgates, Blank Realm, Bitch Prefect and many more, as the label has spread from Brisbane across the country.

The label’s Hobart birthday party gig will feature performances by Melbourne lo-fi pop duo Good Morning; Ben Salter’s Melbournebased rock trio Hownowmer; and Adelaide act Dave Blumberg & The Maraby Band, who will perform Gertrude — “a rock opera about a bored princess and the railway gauges of South Australia”.

They will be joined by local bands All the Weathers, Heck and Dolphin.

The Bedroom Suck Records 8th Birthday Party will be held at the Brisbane Hotel from 8pm tomorrow.

Tickets are $10 pre-sale available from www.bedroomsuckrecords.com, or $12 at the door.

Then on Saturday afternoon, All the Weathers, Good Morning, The Maraby Band, Ben Salter, Heck and Spacebar will play at Dan’s Bar at Franklin from 3pm.

Tickets are $10 online and at the door.
