Mercury (Hobart)

It’s a jungle out there in space

-

UNLEASH your animal instincts at the Republic Bar tomorrow night, when Brisbane bands Young Lions and Bugs are let loose on stage.

Zach Britt (vocals), Morgan Castle (bass), Matt Gibson (drums) and Ryan Allison (guitar) formed Young Lions in early 2013 and released their debut album Burn later that same year, with the title track earning a spot on Triple J’s Short Fast Loud top 40 listener poll. The group’s popularity grew further with the release in January 2015 of their second album, Blue Isla. In August Young Lions released their highly anticipated third record, Mr Spaceman, a concept album that follows a character on a journey into space.

Mr Spaceman has won rave reviews from fans and critics alike, with Rolling Stone calling it “a concept record that explodes [Young Lions’] sound into heady, arena-ready territory”, and Depth Magazine hailing it as “my album of the year so far”.

Having also earned a reputation for their stellar live sets, Young Lions are headed to Hobart for the first time tomorrow night to promote Mr Spaceman, joined by noise- pop trio Bugs.

Singer-songwriter Connor Brooker first started Bugs in 2014 as a bedroom recording project, writing rambunctious and relatable tunes with raw, emotional lyrics.

Brooker’s fan base grew quickly when he started performing small local shows, and before long he was receiving offers to support touring international acts such as PUP, Modern Baseball and Twin Peaks, and Australian bands including Spiderbait, Hockey Dad and Bleeding Knees Club.

The group has gone from strength to strength since Brooker was joined by Brock Weston (drums) and Jordan Brunoli (bass) in 2015.

Fresh from landing a spot at the Bryon Bay Falls Festival, Bugs are touring to promote their latest single Neighbourhood — the first taste of the band’s upcoming six-track EP.

Young Lions and Bugs play at the Republic Bar in North Hobart from 10pm tomorrow.

Tickets are $18.30 pre-sale from the venue and www.moshtix.com.au
