Mercury (Hobart)

Prepare for a culture shock

THERE

will be nothing stale about the tunes when genre-defying Brisbane seven-piece The Mouldy Lovers visit Tasmania this weekend.

The unique band, consisting of a three-piece horn section, drums, guitar, piano accordion and bass, will be in Hobart and Launceston to show off Boondock, their rollercoaster latest single. Boondock was released in September and ranges in style from folk to punk, with elements of everything in between.

The Mouldy Lovers have featured on a number of Australian festival line-ups, including the Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, and the Byron Bay leg of Falls Festival.

They released their first album, Yonder Ruckus, in 2013, which was followed up in 2015 by Mondegreen.

The Mouldy Lovers have dropped two singles so far this year — Civilised Crossfire in May, and Boondock.

To celebrate the release of their latest single, the band are hitting the road for a tour that is taking in cities including Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra and the Gold Coast.

The Mouldy Lovers play at The Homestead in North Hobart, with support from Chupacabra and The Dead Maggies, from 8.30pm tomorrow.

They then perform at Launceston’s Royal Oak, with support from Bad Beef and The Dead Maggies, from 8.30pm on Saturday. Entry to both gigs is $10.
