Schraner’s form holds

ROSNY Park’s Lee Schraner’s outstandin­g recent form continued at the Bowls South’s Men’s Fours Championsh­ips, which ended at the New Norfolk Bowls Club on Sunday.

Schraner followed his Australian Champion of Champions Singles Championsh­ip win, plus gold medals in the Over-35 Men’s Pairs and Mixed Triples Championsh­ips at the Australian Masters Games last month, with a win in the Bowls South Men’s Open Fours Championsh­ip.

Schraner teamed with Mick Sweeney, Brad Griffiths and Rick Ormerod, all from Rosny Park, to easily defeat the composite Kingboroug­h, Buckingham and Sandy Bay combinatio­n of Taelyn Male, Keghan Booth, Ben Dayton and Josh Mabb.

Schraner won the first three ends to race to a seven-shot lead and was never headed before winning by 13 shots.

In the semi-finals, Schraner defeated New Norfolk’s Barry Bone by 15 shots and Male defeated Glenorchy Rodman’s Josh Baker by one shot. IN THE B Grade Men’s Fours Championsh­ips, a composite team from Franklin, New Norfolk and Buckingham, skipped by Brad Johns and including Darryn Reeve, Denzil Ransley and 12-year-old Adam Taylor, defeated New Norfolk’s John Catt, Daniel Elliott, Clive Greenough and Tim Morgan by three shots.

In the semis, Johns defeated Glenorchy Rodman’s Ray McDonald by 10 shots and Catt defeated St John’s Park’s Garry O’Brien by six shots. A TEAM from Dover RSL won the Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Open Fours Championsh­ips at the St John’s Park Bowls Club on Sunday.

Skipped by Barb Liddington, the Dover RSL team consisting of Sheryl Phillips, Meg Wilson and Nadine Seabourne, in her first year of bowls, easily defeated a Rosny Park team of Gaylene Ridgeway (skip), Chris McGrath, Di Salt and Elaine Winthrop.

Liddington won eight of the first nine ends, opening up a 15shot break and never let Ridgeway get back into the game, eventually winning by 20 shots. In the semi-finals, Liddington defeated Sandy Bay’s Yvonne Buckley by nine shots and Ridgeway beat Howrah’s Rosie Geeves by 15 shots. IN THE B Grade Women’s Fours Championsh­ips, a Rosny Park team of Dianne Nieuwhof, Pat Clark and Kaye Cole, skipped by Marjorie Self, beat the Howrah team of Barbara Rankin (skip), Kaye Clifford, Pamela Wright and Joan Stirling by 12 shots.

In the semi-finals, Self defeated Derwent City’s Helen Ducker by three shots and Stirling beat Buckingham’s Lindy Howell by two shots.
