Tassie to play on after FFA revise fail
FOOTBALL Federation Tasmania president Sean Collins says the failed attempt at reform at last night’s Football Federation Australia AGM will not impact the game in Tasmania.
Seven of the 10 members — including Tasmania — voted in favour of the resolution to expand the Congress yesterday, but with more than 75 per cent approval required to pass, the resolution failed.
The result means that FFA’s constitution remains unchanged and the Congress continues with its current membership — one representative each from the nine member federations and one representing the A-League clubs.
Mr Collins, who represented FFT at the meeting in Sydney, said it would be business as usual in Tasmania.
“For football in Tasmania, there aren’t really any direct implications,” Mr Collins said.
“In Tasmania, everything will go on, regardless of what happens at this FFA level, that actually doesn’t affect [the] FFT board or governance.”
Mr Collins said FFT voted in favour of the resolution because it recognises the need for the professional aspect of the game — including A-League clubs and the Professional Footballers’ Association — to have more of a say.
“Essentially we concurred that the governance model needed to change a bit, and that more votes should be given to the professional side of the game,” he said.
“We thought that the model being proposed kept an important balance.”
