Last-minute rush for Taste stallholders
TASTE of Tasmania stallholders are putting the final touches on their food and drink products as they prepare for the next week of their lives at the festival.
After the operations crew put the finishing touches on the festival site yesterday, 79 stallholders will today start to set up their stalls ahead of tomorrow’s start.
With seven days and seven nights of food and drink having to be accounted for to get through the massive event, it’s a huge effort even getting there.
Popular stall Flamecake had done the bulk of its preparations last week, but was still flat out yesterday on the final touches for its Bavarian version of a pizza.
Co-owner Markus Schulz said because Flamecake was expanding its range of food this year, it had increased the workload required before the big event.
“A lot was done last week but we have to do all the fresh food this week and then tomorrow [today] we bring it all down to the site and unload it.” he said.
“This year, we are doing woodfired sandwiches as well. We will put them in the woodfired oven for something different, so that will be exciting.
“After we unload everything, then it begins.”
Flamecake will be on the newly revamped Lawns at the Taste, which is being touted as being transformed into “Mexico with the vibe being laid back, summery and light” with plenty of Tasmanian DJs, bands and electronic acts.
As well as the Lawns, stallholders will be located between the heart of the Taste that is the Shed and the Atrium — which used to be known as the Atrium.
As part of the Taste, numerous roads around the waterfront site will be closed until January 5.
They include Castray Esplanade from Morrison St to Silos Link Rd, Elizabeth St from Morrison St to Franklin Wharf, Franklin Wharf from the Constitution Dock Bridge to Morrison St, Morrison St from Murray St to Salamanca Place and from Elizabeth St to Murray St to southbound traffic.
