Gatehouse takes cup home after countback
TASMANIA Golf Club’s Nathan Gatehouse emerged from a quality field of competitors to secure the Summer Cup on Saturday at Kingston Beach.
Gatehouse won the Golf Tasmania men’s order of merit event in a countback after tying with fellow club member Mark Schulze.
The current Tasmanian men’s team members completed the 18-hole event with oneunder-par rounds of 70.
Llanherne Golf Club’s Roger Styles finished one stroke adrift of Gatehouse and Schulze third on even par.
Local members Sam Halliday and North West Bay Golf Club junior Oscar Burrell tied for fourth on two over par 73. GOLF Australia has named the six Australians who will contest the inaugural Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf championships early next year.
The squad will compete at Sentosa’s New Tanjong golf course in Singapore from February 21-24.
The winner will receive an invitation to next year’s Women’s Champions, the ANA Inspiration and the British Women’s Open.
Australia’s top-ranked player Kirsty Hodgkins, fellow Queenslander Robyn Choi and Grace Kim from NSW were automatic selections based on their world rankings.
They will be joined by Victorian’s Julienne Soo and Alizza Hetherington as well as Queenslander Becky Kay, who were nominated as Golf Australia picks.
South Australian professional Sarah King and Golf Australia’s female pathway manager Stacey Peters will travel with the team as coach and manager. If you have a news item you would like to contribute to this column, please forward to admin@golftasmania.org.au
