Gatehouse takes cup home after countback

TASMANIA Golf Club’s Nathan Gatehouse emerged from a quality field of competitor­s to secure the Summer Cup on Saturday at Kingston Beach.

Gatehouse won the Golf Tasmania men’s order of merit event in a countback after tying with fellow club member Mark Schulze.

The current Tasmanian men’s team members completed the 18-hole event with oneunder-par rounds of 70.

Llanherne Golf Club’s Roger Styles finished one stroke adrift of Gatehouse and Schulze third on even par.

Local members Sam Halliday and North West Bay Golf Club junior Oscar Burrell tied for fourth on two over par 73. GOLF Australia has named the six Australian­s who will contest the inaugural Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific golf championsh­ips early next year.

The squad will compete at Sentosa’s New Tanjong golf course in Singapore from February 21-24.

The winner will receive an invitation to next year’s Women’s Champions, the ANA Inspiratio­n and the British Women’s Open.

Australia’s top-ranked player Kirsty Hodgkins, fellow Queensland­er Robyn Choi and Grace Kim from NSW were automatic selections based on their world rankings.

They will be joined by Victorian’s Julienne Soo and Alizza Hetheringt­on as well as Queensland­er Becky Kay, who were nominated as Golf Australia picks.
