Rosny Park edged by a rebounding Brighton

BRIGHTON won a close game against Rosny Park in Bowls Tasmania South Division One Women’s Pennant on Thursday.

After losing on all rinks to Sorell last week, Brighton rallied to beat Rosny Park by three shots. Judy Williams bowled well all day, taking an early lead that Chris McGrath wasn’t able to bridge, winning by 12 shots.

Rosny Park won on the other two rinks. Brighton’s Sue Grant establishe­d an early lead over Gaylene Ridgeway, but Ridgeway fought back to gain the lead and won by six shots. Ailsa Milburn trailed Val Lukasek early but steadied to win by three shots.

Sorell was at home to Howrah and recorded a convincing 35-shot win. Leona Smith was the big winner, easily accounting for Lynne McDougall by 28 shots. With Gwen Scott leading well, Sandra Hawksley started well against Denise Tanner and establishe­d a 12-shot lead at the lunch break and never relinquish­ed it, winning by 15 shots. Charon Foster was Howrah’s only winner, beating Jan Cowen by eight shots.

Kingboroug­h won on all rinks at Dover RSL, taking the contest by 17 shots. Kathleen Page held an eight-shot advantage at the lunch break against Barb Liddington and maintained that lead to the finish. Greta Murray enjoyed her first win as skip, downing Sonia Martyn by five shots. Leonie Price led all day to defeat Carol Bannister by four shots.

A convincing win by Chris Dowl over an undermanne­d New Norfolk rink enabled Sandy Bay to grab a win despite losses on the other two rinks.

Di Jones was in form for New Norfolk’s Lauren Banks in a close tussle with Robyn Leggett. A strong finish with six shots in three ends enabled Banks to win by five shots.

Yvonne Buckley was six shots clear at the halfway mark but New Norfolk’s Carole Banks-Smith fought back with eight shots in three ends to take the lead. Close draw shots from Chris Hill and Dawn Smith enabled Banks-Smith to draw away for a seven-shot win.

Buckingham scraped in against Claremont by three shots thanks to a win by Alison Chamberlai­n over Gaye Coleman by 11 shots. Claremont won on the other rinks.

Joy Voss came from five shots down at the break to beat June Guy by seven and Rae Freestone beat Jeanette Lane by one.
