Get ready for great scone dust-up
ARGUABLY rural Tasmania’s most coveted honour will be awarded at the Bream Creek Show on Saturday.
The crowning of the top scone baker even comes complete with sash.
“Even if you’re not a baker, just come along to witness the cutthroat world of scone competition, judging and of course eating the entries,” said Bream Creek Show Society’s Meg Bignell.
“This is the first time we’ve taken the battle outside as a separate competition to the scone category in the hall of industries baking section.”
Entries will be accepted at the secretary’s office until 10am on show day with judging at 11.45am on the veranda outside the hall of industries. Commentary will be made by chef Eloise Emmett. Entries should consist of a plate of four scones made, using the recipe courtesy of the Australian Blue Ribbon Cookbook by Liz Harfull.
Ms Bignell said there’s a whole range of ways people can be a part of the small country show, including a new rural ironwoman competition.
“Also f you fancy yourself as a bit of a tosser, there are some new competitions to add to the usual Blunnie toss including egg tossing, hay bale tossing and grape spitting.”
An animal nursery, shearing demonstration, a wine and pork presentation, sand sculpting, circus performers, wood cutting, sausage making and yard dog trials add to the show.
