Ultimate show of friendship

SHE is Australia’s leading lady of musical theatre. He is the country’s No.1 song-and-dance man. Nancye Hayes and Todd McKenney are Bosom Buddies — and they’re bringing their new stage show to Hobart next week.

The recipient of three Lifetime Achievement Awards, three Helpmanns, four Green Room Awards and a Mo, Hayes is an acclaimed actor, dancer, singer, choreographer and director who has sung, danced and acted her way into the hearts of Australian theatregoers since beginning her career in 1961 in My Fair Lady.

An award-winning singer, dancer, actor and all-round entertainer, McKenney has been centre stage in Australia for more than 35 years, but is probably best known as the controversial judge on 15 seasons of the Channel 7 series Dancing With The Stars, and for playing Peter Allen in the original Australian production of The Boy From Oz.

Hayes and McKenney have worked together many times over the years, including their popular 2007 national tour of the comedy Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks.

Now they’re reuniting on stage for Bosom Buddies, which sees the pair reflect on their lives in showbiz and share some showstopping stories that have never been told before.

In Bosom Buddies they sing, dance and recount the highs and lows of their long stage careers, with audiences also offered the chance to ask the questions they’ve always wanted answers to.

Nancye Hayes and Todd McKenney present Bosom Buddies at the Theatre Royal from 7.30pm on Tuesday. Tickets are $32-$80, phone 6233 2299 or go to www.theatreroyal.com.au for bookings.
