Myer turns on 12-hour bonanza

AN Aussie model, a famous pig and one of Tasmania’s favourite chefs will be part of the celebratio­ns as Myer officially opens Stage 2 of its redevelopm­ent.

Thousands of shoppers are expected to visit Hobart Myer today, with the second stage bringing the overall store size to a whopping 12,500sq m.

Hobart Myer has employed 60 new staff and the store now has a 250-strong workforce.

Calvin Klein, a Peter Alexander concept shop and Pilgrim are just some of the brands coming to Myer with Tasmanian models, right, yesterday showing off some of the glam fashion.

Model and TV presenter Rachael Finch will be at the store today to help celebrate the unveiling, which has resulted in expansion to all five levels.

Finch, a Myer ambassador, will host her own Body by Finch fitness class at noon, take part in three fashion parades and launch her B.O.D Finch Apparel range.

Children will be entertaine­d with a teddy bear’s picnic charity at 10am and Peppa Pig has a special 11am appearance.

Tassie chef Massimo Mele will cook up a storm at 2pm and 6pm in the homewares section.

In order to help with anticipate­d extra traffic in the CBD, the Hobart City Council will operate a park and ride service from the Regatta Grounds into the city.

This service will run from 8:30am through to 6:30pm, with the first shuttle bus leaving from 8:45am.

The 12-hour trading extravagan­za starts at 9am.
