Man, 57, endures cold night lost in bush
A MAN who spent a night lost in bushland near Corinna, in the state’s far North-West, has been located safe and well.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew spotted the man about 8am yesterday. He had been reported missing Wednesday afternoon,
The 59-year-old from Smithton was found 7km from Corinna on the Western Explorer Rd — a remote gravel road which links Corinna with Circular Head.
He was cold and tired, but generally in good health.
Tasmania Police said the man had spent the night in very cold temperatures with no food or shelter.
Inspector Shane LeFevre said the man, who got lost at 3pm Wednesday after walking away from his vehicle into the bush, did the right thing by staying close to tracks.
“However, it is a good example of why people entering bush areas should be prepared with adequate clothing and provisions should an emergency occur,” Inspr LeFevre said.
Two people travelling with the man were on the Western Explorer Rd to greet him as he was winched to safety. He was examined by a paramedic, then allowed to go.
