Market ideology

TASMANIA is at a tipping point. The dominant ideology of the markets determining decision-making has failed. People are suffering because governments have allowed private profiteering to take priority over social wellbeing, and all political parties are complicit. There is no future for the increasing number of people falling foul of government-sanctioned greed, selfishness and treachery.

For governments to stand by while people go hungry because they cannot buy food and pay bills, especially rents, should be regarded as criminal. Markets have replaced morals.

The multiple crises we face are not the result of a momentary lapse of competence, but the natural consequences of a socially destructive mania. You cannot reason with people drugged on power.

Before parliament resumes, there is still time to choose what kind of society we want, and how we should achieve that. quarie streets over the back to the Northern Suburbs, things will never change.

Anyone who has anything to do with it at the moment needs sacking and someone with foresight needs to take over. Just get on with it and stop piling up all these waste of time and money reports. The public is aware all levels of government have no idea how to manage traffic systems and the whole thing is just one excuse after the other.

Council’s decision not to renew the lease in 2015 has cost the community its reasonably priced caravan park and locals an alternative for housing. Residents want to know why? It’s a great idea to have jazzy caravans for hipsters to nibble on smashed avocado and soy lattes before a tour of Mona, but at what cost to the poorer folk of Hobart who need shelter from the cold?
