Bid for arms industry jobs perverse
READER Peter Needham (Letters, April 16) is not alone in finding the Government’s prioritisation of arms industry jobs over critically underfunded health and housing services perverse.
The increased militarisation of our country should raise alarm bells to all those who value peace over war.
In a new report “Rumbling Tummies” by the food relief charity, Foodbank, more than one in five children have gone hungry in the last year in this country of the “fair go”.
The situation of the homeless living in tents at the showground would not have arisen if our Government was com- mitted to decent affordable housing for all instead of lining the pockets of wealthy property developers through generous tax concessions. In one of the 10 richest countries on the planet it is unacceptable. We need a new direction.
