Mariners on a mission

-

TASMANIA’S under-18s are hoping to keep their unbeaten start to the season going when they tackle the Northern Territory in Dandenong on Sunday.

The Mariners ran out 45-point winners in stifling conditions last weekend in a performance that pleased head coach Lance Spaulding.

“The way the team went about it from the very start, especially our ball use in the first half, was very good,” Spaulding said. “Fraser Turner had a really good four-quarter game and early on Matt McGuinness was outstanding.

“Tarryn Thomas and Chayce Jones were also brilliant at times, while Alec Wright also impressed me coming into the team. They all did their bit when required which is really promising.”

Despite the positive start, the team will not be resting on its laurels against an NT side that went down to the GWS Academy by 48 points last week.

“We had 62 inside-50s and didn’t take full advantage of that, so our work coming inside 50 is a real focus for us this week,” Spaulding said. “We played really well, but it is encouraging to know that we can play better.” TASMANIA: Baxter Norton (North Hobart), Blair Rubock (Launceston), Rhyan Mansell (North Launceston), Miller Hodge (Launceston), Jared Dakin (Launceston), Chayce Jones (Launceston), Ethan Jackson (Launceston), Mitchel Anderton (Lauderdale), Ryan Banks-Smith (Glenorchy), Matthew McGuinness (Lauderdale), Fraser Turner (Clarence), Tarryn Thomas (North Launceston), Nicholas Baker (Lauderdale), Ty Auton (Launceston), Lachlan Gadomski (Tigers), Thomas Mundy (Launceston), Jamieson House (Launceston), Thomas Donnelly (North Launceston), Jake Steele (North Hobart), Will Peppin (North Hobart), Alec Wright (Launceston), Jordan Lane (Tigers), Timothy Auckland (Launceston).
