Bomber sets standard

-

ESSENDON skipper Dyson Heppell has declared last weekend’s performance against Port Adelaide “the standard” as his side strives for greater consistency.

The Bombers were clinical in their 22-point Round 4 victory over the Power, working their way to a lead of as much as 40 points during the third quarter.

“Of course that’s the standard and we try and hold ourselves accountable for that,” Heppell said.

“That’s the beauty of sport, it’s a fluctuation week to week and you just try to level out that consistency. I think if we can bridge the gap from our best to our worst, we’re going to be a really strong side so we’re building towards that.

“I think it’s just keeping things level, not wavering throughout the week and the way you go about your training. We’ve addressed some issues that came out of Rounds 2 and 3 and I think we put that into play on the weekend.”
