WOOLWORTHS says it is aware of a Hobart Facebook post claiming a needle was found in a strawberry bought at an Eastern Shore store yesterday, and has passed on the details to authorities.

A Facebook user posted yesterday that her daughter had discovered a needle in a strawberry bought at Woolworths Rosny Park.

The post, which included a picture, read: “Warning to everyone today I bought 2 punnets of strawberries from wollworths rosny park and my 10yr old daughter bit into one and there was a needle inside. I took them back and they are being taken over to the police station after I had asked to speak to the manager ... So a big warning to check all strawberry’s these was the pinata brand.”

She told the Mercury the needle got stuck between her daughter’s teeth when she took a bite.

A Woolworths spokesperson said it is aware of the report.

“We’ve passed the details on to the authorities leading the response to this matter and will consult with them on next steps,” the spokesperson said.

Public Health Services said it is also aware of the report and would be looking into it this morning.
