CAMBRIA GREEN

I AM a member of Dolphin Sands Ratepayers Association and resident of Dolphin Sands (13 years full-time). I do not agree with Robyn Moore (Talking Point, September 14). I do not agree that the Dolphin Sands Ratepayers Association represents me with regards to the proposed development. Cambria Green is a huge proposal. If this development is approved it could end up looking very different than Cambria Green has promised. The developers could just sell it on to another developer with the approval in place.

I do not want this development to be approved. I am concerned with the loss of agricultural land, the loss of native habitat around Moulting Lagoon and the creation of golf courses and their need for a huge amount of water, which is in desperately short supply on the East Coast. If Cambria Green is so respectful of the community and wants to become part of Swansea, why have they not started repairing the heritage homestead Cambria? The building is falling into disrepair right now, here is nothing being done. over the DSRA. Secondly, objections are not anti-development, simply insisting on appropriate development. Thirdly, if Dr Moore wants to make accusations about racism and “anti-Asian sentiment”, let’s see the evidence.

Unpredictable

UNFORTUNATELY for Robyn Moore, a rudimentary knowledge of planning is insufficient to predict the effects of the Cambria specific area plan. While the underlying zonings will remain for the site, the specific-area plan will override them, as specific area plans are designed to do. Future development may be decided over numerous costly conflicts, where the courts decide how to interpret the more complex amended planning scheme.

Not representative

ROBYN Moore wrote in support of the Cambria Green development in her capacity as the secretary/treasurer of the Dolphin Sands Ratepayers Association. The frequent use of the pronoun “we” as in, “we are concerned”, “we take issue” and “we reject”, suggests all members of the DSRA agree with her. They most certainly do not. I have been a Dolphin Sands shack-owner for 15 years and am a financial member of the DSRA. At no stage was I asked about whether I agreed to have the DSRA executive represent my views in a matter of such importance. There are many people who belong to the DSRA and are opposed to this development and Bruny Island ferry operator SeaLink to offer cheaper fares All people are equal charge the same irrespective where they live. No priority should be given to people who choose to live on the island. Tasmanians don’t get priority on the Spirits. take strong objection to the DSRA purporting to represent us in this matter. Dr Moore states that everyone deserves a fair go. Those opposed to this development believe the developers have had more than a fair go.

Not too much to ask

THE Talking Point is quite misleading. In fact there is no president of the Dolphin Sands Ratepayers Association and they are missing a committee member. I’m a paying member of the association. I have never been contacted by them. Those of us who question the Cambria Green development want due process and sensible planning. Finding a solution that balances the environmental, the economic and the social values of the community is something we should all strive for. It does not seem too much to ask for our precious state.

Let’s look at the facts

AS candidates for Glamorgan Spring Bay Council, we suggest Robyn Moore reads our campaign material. We state our support for appropriately scaled, sustainable and sensitive East Coast development that complement and protects the values and amenity of the area. We make no mention of foreign ownership. In resorting to race, misinformation and anti-development comments, Dr Moore uses rhetoric aiming to discredit people with a different perspective. Let’s focus on the facts.

BOM blast

IN whose best interests were senators Bushby and Abetz acting on when they refused to support the call in the senate to stop BOM being taken away from Tasmania? Certainly not the farmers, fishers and firefighters. Living on an island calls for accurate local information. The senators’ actions reflect a lack of desire to act for these people.

Different views

FOR the people of Tasmania, Australia and Nobart, for clarity and impartiality, three accurate composition pictures of the mountain with cable car are needed. One from the Eastern Shore, one from the mountaintop and one from Nobart. Then, all could have an informed opinion of the future appearance of our currently facially scarred whitepronged mountain. Only the Mercury could be trusted to do this!

Develop the Springs

WITH the debate on the cable car still divisive, why can’t we terminate all traffic at the Springs (excluding shuttle buses, cyclists and those on foot) and develop a carpark, visitors’ centre and restaurant at the Springs? This would allow for a non-invasive visit, with no unsightly cable car infrastructure.
