Painful truth can be a real laughing matter
AUSTRALIAN comedy superstar Judith Lucy is coming back to Hobart for one special night only, performing two shows for Jokers Comedy Club next weekend.
A fixture on the Australian comedy scene since the mid-1990s — when she first came to national attention as a cast member of the iconic Late Show alongside the likes of Mick Molloy and Tony Martin — Lucy has won countless fans across the country and overseas thanks to her rapid-fire, brutally honest style of humour.
She has also been seen in films such as Crackerjack, Bad Eggs and The Sapphires, and starred in two of her own ABC TV series, Judith Lucy’s Spiritual Journey (2011) and Judith Lucy Is All Woman (2015).
And she has remained a major draw on the stand-up scene, culminating in 2015 when she was awarded the prestigious Helpmann Award for Comedy for her show Ask No Questions of the Moth.
She is also a best-selling author, having penned the popular books Drink, Smoke, Pass Out and The Lucy Family Alphabet.
Last year Lucy teamed up with another Australian comedy favourite, Denise Scott, to tour their acclaimed two-woman show Disappointments across the country. The pair brought Disappointments to the Hobart Spiegeltent in March, and now Lucy is returning to Tasmania next weekend for three solo shows.
After appearing at the Fresh Comedy Gala in Launceston next Friday (October 5), she will perform twice for Jokers Comedy Club at the Polish Corner in New Town next Saturday (October 6): from 7.30pm (already sold out) and 9.30pm. Lucy will be joined by local support Sally Rose McShane and Jokers host Gavin Baskerville.
Tickets are $36.30 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au, or $40 at the door (if not sold out).
